Most trips pass without any health problems, and a little preparation helps. This page is general information, not medical advice. See a doctor or travel clinic at least six to eight weeks before you leave.
Yellow fever
You may be asked for a yellow fever certificate depending on where you are travelling from and which countries you pass through, including during airport transits. Uganda may also require it on arrival. Check the current rules for your full route.
Malaria
Malaria is present in many safari areas and on the coast. Ask your doctor which medication suits you, and use insect repellent and long sleeves in the evening.
Altitude
Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru are high enough to cause altitude sickness, and the Ngorongoro rim is also noticeably cool and high. Tell us about any heart or breathing conditions when you book a climb.
Everyday care
- Drink bottled or filtered water.
- Use strong sunscreen and wear a hat, even on cloudy days.
- Pack enough of any prescription medicine for the full trip, in your hand luggage.
